Chapter 1 You Family is Disgusting

"What''s wrong, are you leaving home?"

As Sunny Holland came downstairs with her suitcase, Tina Johnson''s voice followed right behind her.

Sunny didn''t even bother to look at her. She just gave her a quick glance and kept walking with her suitcase.

Right as she hit the first floor, she ran into Austin Johnson''s mother, Grace Smith—a wealthy woman who''d always looked down on her. Grace was giving her the stink eye. "Where are you going with that suitcase this early?"

After three years as Grace''s daughter-in-law, Sunny knew exactly what came next—Grace was about to blow up.

In the old days, she would''ve apologized and tried to smooth things over. But not today. She didn''t even want Austin anymore, so why would she kiss up to his cranky mother?

"Don''t worry about it, Mrs. Johnson. I won''t be coming back here anyway."

Gone was her usual sweet, respectful tone. Her words were flat, and her eyes had lost that eager-to-please look. Instead, they were ice-cold, making Sunny seem like a completely different person.

Grace wasn''t used to her normally submissive daughter-in-law suddenly talking back like this. Her face darkened. "Sunny, is this how you talk to your elders?"

"My attitude matches yours." Sunny raised an eyebrow, her unexpected confidence and coldness making Grace''s anger spike. "Sunny, do you even see me as your mother-in-law anymore?"

Hearing that, Sunny looked at Grace and smiled sarcastically. "Sorry, but you won''t be my mother-in-law much longer."

Just then, a car horn honked outside the villa. Sunny raised her eyebrows. "I''m leaving, Mrs. Johnson. Everything I left upstairs—I don''t want any of it. Throw it away, burn it, whatever. Just don''t contact me again."

She started dragging her suitcase toward the door, tossing out the words as she walked, "Your family is disgusting."

Grace was still processing Sunny''s "won''t be my mother-in-law much longer" comment when she exploded. "Are you insane, Sunny? Do you think I won''t tell Austin that you—"

"Mom, have you seen that woman Sunny? It''s hilarious. This early in the morning and she''s actually dragging a suitcase around, hahaha... she''s not trying to get my attention so I''ll beg her to stay, is she?"

Tina walked out of the villa, and seeing Grace standing there frozen, she tugged on her sleeve. "Mom, what''s wrong with you?"

Grace''s expression was complicated. Usually, whenever she brought up Austin, Sunny would back down immediately. But today? Today she''d just walked away without looking back.

Outside, the sports car had already disappeared in a blur. Grace walked to the door and only caught a glimpse of the taillights. "She... she''s really gone?"

Tina followed her out and smirked. "It''s fine. Jennifer''s back. If she doesn''t leave now, my brother would''ve gotten rid of her sooner or later anyway!"

Grace realized she was right. The Dawson family''s youngest daughter had returned, and if Sunny was smart enough to divorce Austin on her own, at least she had some sense.

Sunny sat in the Porsche, flipping through the divorce papers. After reading through all the terms, she signed her name with satisfaction.

Alicia Poole, who was driving, glanced over and whistled. "Really going through with it?"

Sunny capped the pen. "Absolutely."

Austin''s first love was back—what was there left to obsess over? Three years wasn''t too long, wasn''t too short. Sunny figured even a cold heart could warm up eventually.

But Austin didn''t have a heart. His heart belonged to his first love. Sunny felt like she''d been pathetic. She''d forced him to marry her in the first place, holding onto the title of Mrs. Johnson for three pointless years. Now that Jennifer Dawson was back, she naturally had to step aside. How else could she make up for the three years Austin had stayed away from Jennifer because of her?

Yeah, she''d been married to Austin for three years and they''d never had sex. Not even once. Good thing nobody knew, or the people who''d been laughing at her for three years would''ve had even more ammunition.

Three years. That was enough to end her seven-year crush. She raised her hand to shield her eyes from Alicia, hiding her tears.

She was human. No matter how strong she tried to be, anyone would struggle after ten years of love ending like this.

The red sports car stopped, and Alicia lifted her sunglasses. "We''re here, Sunny. Time to move on. I''ve got your back!"

Alicia blew her a kiss. Sunny looked at her and smiled. "Alright. I''m going to see him now."

Throwing divorce papers at Austin in a bold, no-nonsense way was definitely going to be tough.

Sunny grabbed the divorce papers and got out of the car. After three years of marriage, this wasn''t her first time at KLOC, and definitely not the first time getting the runaround from the receptionist.

"Miss Holland, you can''t go up without an appointment. Mr. Johnson is very busy. If everyone could just walk up whenever they wanted, what would be the point of having a receptionist?"

A receptionist could give her this much attitude, and after three years, she still wouldn''t call her Mrs. Johnson. That definitely meant Austin didn''t give a damn about her.

Sunny smiled coldly. "KLOC''s staff training really is terrible. As Austin''s wife, I have to make an appointment to see him? Guess being Mrs. Johnson isn''t worth much."

She shot the receptionist an icy look and walked straight to the elevator in her heels. The receptionist, seeing this side of Sunny for the first time, was momentarily stunned before snapping back to reality. But she was still worried something might happen, so she quickly called upstairs to give them a heads-up.

Before Sunny even arrived, Austin knew she was coming to see him. He frowned. "I don''t want to see her." He had a meeting in five minutes.

The secretary left to handle it, but just as he stepped out of the office, he saw Sunny clicking down the hall in her heels.

Sunny was wearing a floral A-line dress today—she looked gentle and elegant. But for some reason, when her eyes met his, the secretary felt like Sunny was different today.

"Ivan."

Sunny greeted him first, and without waiting for a response, she pushed open Austin''s office door. "Excuse me, Mr. Johnson, there''s an agreement that needs your signature."

She walked in, meeting the cold stare of the man behind the desk, and placed the divorce papers directly in front of him. "Sign it."
